Walt Disney World Announces NEW 4D “Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival” Coming December 2015 to Epcot

Thanks to Meghan Donovan for sourcing this story.

Captain EO is going bye-bye at Epcot.

Disney just confirmed via the Disney Parks Blog that Captain EO is in fact closing for good to make way for the “Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival” at the  Magic Eye Theater.

This new 4D experience will allow guests to “experience beloved Disney and Pixar animated shorts.” Including a look into the visionary minds behind some of the world’s most iconic animated films from Pixar today.

Disney's announcement stated. "We know how much Disney Parks fans love our animated films and shorts. So today, we’re happy to share that coming in December, Epcot guests can experience beloved Disney and Pixar animated shorts in a new 4D experience located in Magic Eye Theater in the Imagination Pavilion. “Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival” will include a look into the visionary minds behind some of the world’s most iconic animated films today."

Once inside the theater, guests can put on their 3D glasses and enter the imaginative worlds of three animated shorts, which will burst to life on the big screen (and in the theater) like never before. Rumors of this show being more of a "filler" feature until they reveal the Magic Eye Theater's long-term tenant is still floating. Time will only tell – a "Frozen" feature perhaps…?

4D, of course, simply means added experiences in addition to the usual 3D glasses, such as water spray, blowing air, or aromatic effects.
